There's a rash of scam artists out there claiming to be locksmiths. They prey on people who urgently need their locks opened by quoting a low price over the phone, showing up, opening the lock in a destructive manner, and then pressuring the customer to pay exorbitant fees for their work. I'm not one of them.

But they can get away with it because it's hard for even legitimate locksmiths to quote accurate prices over the phone without first seeing the lock and diagnosing the problem. On top of that, folks so rarely need the services of a locksmith that it's hard to be aware of fair market prices.

To the greatest extent possible, I want my pricing to be transparent. Within my typical coverage area, the price for me to show up will be $40. By calling me and getting me to drop what I'm doing and bring my mobile shop to your door, you're agreeing to pay that minimum fee. I won't do anything beyond that point without your approval.

Additionally, here's a general breakdown of approximate fees for some basic services, under normal circumstances:
